Barry T. Freed, Age 76, of Upper Providence, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2010.
He was the loving and devoted husband of Arlene "Lee" (Brandenburg) Freed and would have celebrated his 53rd wedding anniversary on the 25th of September.
Born in Spring City; a son of the late Jesse and Agnes (Gerhart) Freed.
He was a 1951 graduate of the former Spring City High School and attended the Drexel University. He served abroad the commissioning crew of the U.S.S. Forrestal from 1955-1957 and remained active with the Forrestal reunions; in 1993 he retired from Unisys of Great Valley where he was employed as a design engineer.
Mr. Freed loved the outdoors, sports, computers and especially his faithful cat "Cammy". He was a life member of the Liberty Fire Company (Spring City) and Spring City United Methodist Church. He was a forty year member of MENSA.
He served as Secretary/Treasure for the Liberty Fire Co. /Tri Boro Bowling League and the Spring City High School Reunion Committee, and he was a member of the Tuscarora Hunting Lodge in Mifflin County. His passions included reading, politics, world events, genealogy and relaxing at his Cameron County Vacation home.
Survived by 3 sons: Michael of Charlestown Townsgip, Kevin of Pine Grove PA and Kyle of Spring City and one daughter: Gailynne Ferguson of Montgomery County, PA and four grandchildren 3 nephews and a niece.
Predeceased by sisters: Cora and Florence and brother: Edgar
His funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11am at the Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, Bridge and Church Streets Spring City PA, The Rev. Kerry Bart officiating. His burial will follow with military honors in the Limerick Garden of Memories. His viewing will be held Saturday morning at the funeral home from 9-11am, the family requests memorial gifts may be made in his memory to the Montgomery County SPCA 19 E.
