Robert H. (Bobby) Smith, 65, beloved husband of Carol Ann ( Edleman) "Sue" Smith of Spring City, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 in the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center with his wife of 40 years and his children at his side. Born in Phoenixville he was the son of the late Daniel W. Smith and Flora (Piersoll) Smith. He graduated from Spring-Ford High School in 1962. He was a Sgt. in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era receiving many marksmanship awards. Mr. Smith was employed by Bell Atlantic for 26 years as a lineman, retiring in 1995. He was a former member of the Spring City United Methodist Church. Mr. Smith was an avid hunter and also enjoyed fishing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Hunting trips included travel to Maine, Montana, Wyoming, Saskatchewan, West Virginia and Potter County. Robert was a member of the Amateur Trapshooters Association and won the 1980 PA State Grand Trapshooting Championship. He was a member of the Thomas O'Connor Legion #602, the Liberty Steam Fire Engine Co. No. 1, the Lower Pottsgrove Sportsmans Assoc., the National Rifle Assoc. and the Kimberton Fish & Game Assoc. In addition to his wife Mr. Smith is survived by two children, Amy Elizabeth Smith, wife of James B. Erb, of Zeiglerville and Daniel Edward Smith, companion of Judy L Insco, Downingtown; two brothers, Charles Smith, husband of Joan, of Liberty SC and John, husband of Faye, of Montgomery, AL. He was predeceased by two sisters, Bette Marshall and Mary Lou Hunter and two brothers, James Smith and Richard Smith. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, Bridge & Church Sts., Spring City on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., the Reverend Janelle L. Krais of Grace Lutheran Church, Royersford will officiate. Burial will follow in the Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick. Visitation will be from 9:30 -11 A.M. at the funeral home.. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his memory to the Pennsylvania SPCA, 350 E. Erie Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19134 or to the Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Rd., Kanab, UT, 84741-5000. Arrangements are by Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, Spring City.
