Obituary of James J. Golie

James J. Golie, Sr., 88, husband of Alma (Otter) Golie died Saturday, November 16, 2013 at home.
He was born in Royersford, PA to the late Geoffrey and the late Julia (Cutillo) Golie. During his Senior year in high school, Jim was Captain of the football team then served in the U.S. Navy arriving home in June to accept the diplomas of all of his fellow classmates of 1944 who were actively serving in the Military. During WWII he was assigned to the USS Alaska in the Pacific Theatre. He was discharged from the Navy with various decorations including the Victory Medal, Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
Jim formerly owned the Bankers Bar and he worked as a Master Carpenter. He was involved in many clubs and organizations in the Spring-Ford area including the Liberty Fire Company, the American Legion, The VFW, The American-Italian Bocce Club, Friendship Hook and Ladder, Twin Ponds Golf Club and Lower Pottsgrove Sportman’s Club. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling.
In addition to his wife, Alma, surviving are his three children: James J. Golie Jr.(Regina), Royersford; Cynthia Noble-Mohn (Butch), Parkerford; and Rita Leary-Bullard (Mark), Limerick . Nine Grandchildren and Eighteen Great Grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his sister and brother: Elizabeth Brown and Frank Golie.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at Shalkop Grace & Strunk Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 135 Bridge Street, Spring City.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30PM Thursday and 9:00-10:00 AM Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Limerick Garden of Memories, Swamp Pike, Limerick. Memorial gifts may be made in his memory to the Royersford Area Community Chest
