Obituary of Michael Gabriel McAllister

Dr. Michael McAllister, 56, of Spring City, PA and Lahaina, HI, died Wednesday October 7 of injuries sustained while doing one of his favorite lifelong activities, surfing. Dr. McAllister was the co-founder and Executive Director of Networks for Training and Development, Inc. He worked for many years for the City of Philadelphia and within the developmental disabilities community. The son of Lawrence and Mildred McAllister of South Philadelphia, he attended St. Monica's Elementary School, Bishop Neumann High School, Philadelphia Community College, Penn State University Capital Campus, Shippensburg University, and the University of Oregon, where he received his Ph.D. He was also an Adjunct Professor in Special Education at Lehigh University for more than 15 years. Michael's incredible gifts, insight, passionate determination, and contributions touched the lives of everyone he met. Mike truly made our world a better place in which all can be accepted for their gifts and talents. Even in death, he has helped others through the gift of organ and tissue donation via the NJ Sharing Network. Mike was a man full of life, love, and energy! His passions include: many varied musical instruments, singing, his BMW motorcycle, crossword puzzles, fine red wine, good food, traveling, teaching, debating, and surfing (particularly at Seaside Park, NJ and Maui, HI). He is survived by the love of his life and wife, Rosa; his son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Megan; grandson and best buddy, Ethan; brothers, Lawrence and Joseph; sister, Roseann; several nieces; a nephew; and thousands of friends and colleagues around the world. A celebration of Michael's life will be held Saturday October 17, 2009 from 1:00pm to 5:oopm at the Broad Axe Tavern 901 W. Butler Pike Blue Bell PA 19422.
