Obituary of Charles J Thum

Charles J. Thum, Jr. age 86, husband of Mary "Betty" (Massenburg)Thum, of Spring City, died on Tuesday evening in the Southeastern Veteran's Center, Spring City, PA.
Mr. Thum was born in Royersford a son to the late Charles and Cecelia (Quay) Thum. He resided most of his life in Royersford and Spring City, he was a 1943 graduate of the former Spring City High School and received his Bachelor's degree in teaching from Millersville University. Mr. Thum was employed for twenty eight years as a draftsman for the former Bethlehem Steel until its closing and then for the FMC Company as a draftsman for six years until his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in the European Theatre as a Medic. Mr. Thum was a member the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spring City. He was a member the Royersford Veterans of Foreign War Post 6341 and the Spring City American Legion Post 602 Thomas W. O'Connor and the Liberty Fire Company of Spring City and a fourth degree member f the Knights of Columbus Council #1374.
He enjoyed spending time at his shore home in New Jersey, and clamming, fishing and playing golf.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons: Timothy husband of Diane Thum of Lakeland FL and Kevin husband of Paula Thum of Spring City, and 5 grandchildren: Ryan husband of Megan, Karin, Christopher, Patrick, and Jillian. Also two great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass on Friday June 10, 2011 at 11:00am. At the St. Joseph Church, 3640 Schuylkill road, Spring City. The Rev. Charles O'Hara will officiate. Burial to follow in the Fernwood Cemetery, Royersford. Visitation will be held Friday morning at the church from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in his memory to the St. Joseph Church to the above address.
