Obituary of Arthur Clarence Miller
Arthur C. Miller died peacefully at home in Birchrunville, PA on Sunday May 7, 2017 at the age of 85.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife Gwendolyn (nee Howard) and children Arthur Jr., Jennifer (Kawar) and David and grandchildren Faris Miller, Phoebe and Thea Kawar, and Efi and Arthur Miller. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Mooney, brother William Miller, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents George and Florence and brothers Russell and Robert.
Arthur was born on August 18, 1931 in Bellerose, Queens, NY to George and Florence (nee Biddle) Miller. He graduated from Spring City High School. Upon graduation, he joined his father’s contracting business. He left the family business to serve in Japan with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He married Gwendolyn Howard of Torrance, PA in December 1962 and they settled in Birchrunville. In 1966, Art founded A.C. Miller Concrete Products, Inc. Thanks to his innovation, vision and perseverance, what started as a small precast septic tank manufacturer grew into one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s biggest independent pre-casters with two locations.
Art was an accomplished golfer and tennis player. He enjoyed entertaining friends on the course – especially when a friendly wager was involved. He had a variety of interests which were fueled by extensive reading. He left the office daily with The Wall Street Journal tucked under his arm. Above all, Art was a genuinely good guy as many of his friends will attest. He was also a loving husband, an awesome father, and a fun loving grandfather who brought the bubblegum, not the broccoli.
The family is accepting condolences at Shalkop, Grace & Strunk Funeral Home in Spring City on Thursday, May 11th between 3:00 and 6:00 pm. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to United Way of Chester County.
